What this site is. The Zodiac Animal is a free informational tool about the Chinese zodiac. The zodiac is a cultural tradition; everything here — the calculator, the sign profiles, the compatibility ratings — is provided for general interest and entertainment only. It is not advice of any kind (personal, relationship, financial, medical or otherwise) and should not be relied on for decisions.

Accuracy. We take care to get the zodiac dates and calculations right and have checked the Chinese New Year table against published almanacs, but we make no warranty that the content is complete or error-free. If you spot a mistake, please tell us.

Your use. You may read and use this site for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not scrape, republish or bulk-copy the content without permission. Automated access that degrades the service for others is not allowed.

External links. Some pages link to other websites. We are not responsible for the content or practices of sites we link to.

Liability. To the extent permitted by law, Mithila Labs is not liable for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, this website.

Changes. We may update these terms from time to time; the date above shows the last change.

Why entertainment, and not advice

Chinese astrology is thousands of years old and taken seriously as culture by a great many people, and nothing here is meant to dismiss that. But a personality summary tied to your birth year cannot account for who you actually are, so we're explicit that these pages describe a tradition rather than a verified prediction about you specifically. If a decision genuinely matters — a relationship, a hire, a major purchase — base it on real information about the actual people and circumstances involved, not a zodiac sign.

The calculator's limits

The calculator determines your sign and element from your birth date using the standard cycle and our checked Chinese New Year date table. It does not account for time of day, hour-based charts, or the more detailed bāzì (eight-character) system some traditional practitioners use, which looks at year, month, day and hour together. If you've seen a different result from a source using that fuller system, that's not necessarily an error on either side — they're answering a more detailed question than this calculator sets out to answer.

This site may display advertisements served by Google AdSense and its partners, as described in our privacy policy. We don't control the specific ads shown to any individual visitor, and the presence of an ad on this site is not an endorsement of the advertiser or their product.

Intellectual property

The text, layout and design of this site are owned by Mithila Labs unless otherwise noted. The Chinese zodiac itself is a public cultural tradition that belongs to no one; what we claim ownership of is our specific writing and presentation of it, not the underlying folklore.

Governing terms

These terms describe the whole of the agreement between you and Mithila Labs regarding use of this site. If any part of them is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

Age of use

This site is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. If you are under the age required by your local law to agree to these terms on your own, please use this site only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

How disputes would be handled

If a disagreement arises about the use of this site, we'd rather hear about it directly first — most issues are things we can simply fix. Formal disputes would be handled under the laws applicable to Mithila Labs's jurisdiction, to the extent permitted by local consumer-protection law where you live.
