Born in 2026: the Horse

Anyone born in 2026 is a Fire Horse. The year's traditional two-part name is 丙午 (bǐngwǔ), number 43 in the 60-year cycle, and it is a yang year, the active, outgoing half of the cycle. The base Horse traits (free-spirited, energetic, sociable) come filtered through a dynamic, warm and a little restless Fire tone.

The 2026 lunar year runs from February 17, 2026 up to the day before Chinese New Year 2027 (February 6, 2027). If you were born on or after February 17, 2026 you are a Horse; if you were born earlier in 2026, you belong to the previous year's sign, the Snake. A baby born in 2026 is in its first year.

Calendar note: 2026's Chinese New Year fell on a Tuesday, and this lunar year runs 354 days — an ordinary 12-month lunar year.

What the Fire element adds

Fire is the element of summer, energy and passion. A Fire year turns the volume up — more drive, more warmth, more willingness to take a risk — but also a shorter fuse and less patience for slow, routine work.

The full 60-year cycle pairs each of the 12 animals with each of the 5 elements, so a Fire Horse year comes around only once every 60 years — the last one before 2026 was 1966, and the next is 2086. People born in it are said to combine free-spirited and energetic with the element's dynamic nature. Every Horse year is yang (the active, outgoing type). See the Fire element and the full Fire Horse profile.

Where a birthday around 2026 lands

The zodiac year does not follow the calendar year, so 2026 is spread across two calendar years. This table shows exactly which animal a birthday gets.

Birthday	Zodiac animal
January 1 to February 16, 2026	Snake (the 2025 year)
February 17, 2026 to December 31, 2026	Horse
January 1, 2027 to February 5, 2027	Horse (still the 2026 year)
February 6, 2027 onward	Goat (the 2027 year)

Zodiac years ahead for a 2026 Horse

Someone born in 2026 reaches their first own-sign year at 12, in 2038, and again in 2050. Tradition calls this your běnmìngnián. Despite being "your" year, it is thought to clash with Tài Suì (the God of Age) and to carry a higher chance of setbacks, so many people wear red through it for protection.

The element pair: 2026 and 2027

Fire years come in pairs. 2026 is the yang year and 2027 is the yin year, the Goat. So a 2026 Horse and a 2027 Goat share an element and sit one year apart in the cycle. The traditional chart rates the Horse and Goat pairing as excellent: one of the six classic 'secret friend' pairings — a naturally supportive, stabilizing match. See the Horse and Goat pairing.

What a Fire year changes for the Horse

Talking. The Fire element shows up in how a 2026 Horse speaks: it leans further into action, saying yes before thinking it all the way through. Another element on the same animal would sound different.

Work. In 2026 the Fire element intensifies and adds urgency to the Horse's habits at work, so this version runs things hotter and faster than most. It changes the style, not the choice of career.

Love. A 2026 Horse shows affection loudly and quickly. That follows from the element: fire is the element of summer, energy and passion.

For the sign as a whole (how the Horse communicates, works and loves in every element) see the Horse profile. This page covers what is different about 2026.

Known Horses

Emma Watson, Barbra Streisand, Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford are among the names most often cited as Horses, though none of them was born in the 2026 lunar year. They're referenced here as examples of the animal's free-spirited streak generally, not proof of what a Fire Horse specifically looks like.
